the biggest problem with the youtube community is the lack of sharing
people used to link to other people’s videos all the time and there was lots of conversation and collaboration
now it’s just sort of
a bunch of isolated channels
and there are some good ones
but i like it here much better, where sharing is encouraged and the norm
YouTube used to have a really unpolished, gritty sort of feel to it like you knew that people were almost exclusively uploading home movies and things they filmed themselves to it
But it’s just really obvious now that a lot of YouTube “higher-ups” treat it like any other sort of entertainment business, like a lot of the videos on there just seem like TV shows and it’s really obvious that there was a production team behind it and eh it just sort of makes the whole website seem really industrial and businesslike
The only people who get exposure on there now are the people who are already well established and who have a lot of subscribers and well I can’t really blame YouTube for promoting them, those are the ones who are going to make them the most money
But it just makes it seem really corporate or something I don’t know
yeah word
i think it’s okay if some channels feel like tv shows
the problem is that the ones that feel like tv shows feel like really shitty tv shows

I mean I think there’s some truth in this, but the only “Tv show” style channels I’m subbed to are John and Hank Green’s...

so i’d like to agree, but i feel like this is the same as the ‘all good music is dead’ argument.
the same gritty channels and conversations and referrals still exist , but now it’s sort of underground and harder to find, you know?
